Learn to throw pots on the wheel at this fun class in Oatley:

  • Suitable for 9-18 year olds
  • $100 for a two hour lesson starting at 9am
  • Classes are small with only 5 participants to ensure individual tuition

What you’ll do

Experience the potter’s wheel and learn how to make your own ceramics at this fun beginner’s throwing class at Oatley Pottery Studio.

This class is the perfect introduction for children wanting to have some hands-on experience working with clay on the wheel. You’ll learn everything you need to know about how to prepare clay, centre a ball of clay and throw bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. 

Classes include small groups of up to five students, so you will get personal attention. The class runs for two hours and at the end of the class, you will get to pick two of your pots to leave at the studio to be fired and glazed.

Clarissa will email you once the work is fired and glazed so collection can be arranged. From drying to bisque firing, then glaze firing takes three to four weeks.

Knowledge required

No knowledge is required. Perfect for beginners.

What you’ll get

  • learn how to make pots on the potters’ wheel
  • choose two of the pots you make which the studio will decorate with slip, be fired twice and glazed. 
  • be notified when your pots are ready to collect in about three to four weeks.

What to bring

Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-in shoes that you don’t mind getting clay on.

Bring an apron to wear during the class and a small towel. Don’t worry if you don’t have an apron as we have spares. Please also ensure your nails are trimmed short and long hair should be pulled back from the face or tied back.

 

Terms and Conditions

To cancel and receive a full refund, you must notify clarissaregan@gmail.com at least 48 hours before the lesson. Within 48 hours of the scheduled class, there will be no refunds for cancellations or no-shows.

We will notify you by email once the pieces you’ve made are ready for collection, generally two to three weeks later.

Due to limited storage space your pieces will need to be picked up within six weeks of notification to avoid them being discarded.
